What do you want to be when you grow up?

We've all heard this question (perhaps, one too many times!)
At some time or another we've been asked it,
and have even asked it to those around us.
But why?

Why do we seem to have this preoccupation with what people become. The idea that someone's occupation defines their identity, their value, their worth.

Instead of being focused on what someone grows up to be
shouldn't we be more focused on who someone grows up to be?

Who do you want to be when you grow up?

Now that's a question worth asking.
(no matter what your age)

So ... who?

who do you want to be?
who do you want to be like?
what qualities do you want to exude?

For me, it is Jesus.

I know many of you may think "oh yeah, that would be my answer too!" but deep down, deep deep down in your heart, is this really true?

Don't you want the physique of a celebrity?
the brains of a genius?
or even the talent of your favourite artist?

Well, sure .. those too.

But truth is, if we really desire to be like Jesus we are to emulate Him
instead of those people the world values.

It is said that you become like the people you spend most of your time with.

So spend time with God, choose His ways over your own,
and in time you will grow to be more like Him.

be encouraged.
